Early payoff discount

A contract term that lowers what you owe on a merchant cash advance if you pay off the full balance before a set date.

With a fixed factor rate, the purchased amount is due in full however quickly you pay. An early payoff discount is the exception: the contract lowers the amount owed if you settle early, for example through a lower factor rate or a percentage off the remaining balance.

The discount exists only if it is in the contract. A verbal promise is hard to enforce, so get the schedule in writing with the dates and the payoff amounts.

Example: On $50,000 at 1.35, you have paid 60 daily debits of $401.79, or $24,107.40. Without a discount you owe $43,392.60. If the contract drops the factor rate to 1.25 for payoff within 60 business days, you owe $38,392.60 and save $5,000.

Ask for a payoff letter before you move money, and check the savings in the early payoff calculator.
